How to Make a Crate Divider with Cardboard or Plywood

Step One:

First, you need to determine the amount of space that is sufficient for your puppy to stand and move easily. Mark the place in the box where the divider will be placed.

Place your puppy or dog in the crate and determine how small you want to make the crate.

Make sure your dog will still be able to stand up, turn around and lay down comfortably.

Step Two:

Measure the height of the crate from the floor to the top and the width of the crate from side to side across using the measuring tape.

Step Three:

Trace the measurements onto the cardboard so that you can create a divider for your crate. You can use the tape measure to draw straight lines of the correct sizes.

Get the dimensions of the crate: Use a measuring tape to determine the dimensions of the crate. Obtain the width and height and allow a margin of ½ inch to securely fit the divider.

Step Four:

Once you have the measurements, use your pencil and ruler to mark the board. Then proceed to cut the board with the sharp scissors in a straight line. If you are using plywood, use a hacksaw to make the cuttings.

Cut out the cardboard accordingly with sturdy scissors or a tube. Try to fit the cardboard into the box. You may need to cut a little extra to make sure it fits properly.

Step Five:

Drill or punch holes in each corner of the board and thread the cable tie or wire through the holes. Place the divider in the box and secure it by wrapping the straps or wires around the bars. You want to make sure the sharp ends are outside of the crate as they can injure your dog. If possible, cut the excess wires after attaching the divider.
