Best Chew Toys for Aggressive Chewers

The list of dog toys is endless, but if you are looking for something safe and sturdy for an aggressive chewer, take a look at our list of the best toys for aggressive chewers that are also crate safe.

Use This:  Kong Extreme Ball

best chew toy

This toy is made for serious play.  If your pup loves to chew, chomp, and roll a ball, this is the toy you want.

Not that:  Tennis balls, handballs – any ball that can easily be chewed in half is off the crate list.  Tennis balls and handballs are both choking hazards.  They are perfect for a game of fetch, but not for unsupervised play.

Use This: Antlers or Hard Dura-Chew Nylabones

chew toy for aggressive chewer

There’s nothing worse than coming home from work to find your pup has shredded one of their favorite toys (or your shoes!). But I’ve got some great alternatives for durable dog chews that will last long and satisfy even the most aggressive chewer.  Antlers are an organic treat that are shed as part of an Elk’s life cycle, so they are a green choice that is sourced in the USA.  My dog Layla goes crazy for them, and they also promote clean white teeth.  Nylabones are another made in USA treat that is made of durable nylon and the nubs and ridges are also great for teeth cleaning.

Not That: Rawhide, Soft-Nylon Toys or Smoked Bones
Rawhide chews are great for supervised use, but some dogs can soften the rawhide pieces and choke. Soft gummy nylon bones may be gnawed off in large hunks that could result to blockages if your dog is not watched carefully! And smoked bones can shatter easily.

Use This: KONG- Exteme

best chew toy

The KONG Extreme is designed for the toughest of chewers.  The KONG’s natural rubber is ultra-durable and designed for determined chewers, while the erratic bounce makes it more fun.  Stuffed with tempting goodies – such as kibble and peanut butter, the KONG Extreme will keep your chewer busy for hours.  Make sure to pick the right size for your chew enthusiast! When in doubt, size up for safety.

Not That: Plush or Rope Toys
I love plush toys, but they’re not for crate time. Supervised use only! This goes double if batteries are involved as ingestion would necessitate a trip to the vet.  Some dogs love to chew on ropes. But be careful because if they untie the knots and start chewing away at them it could cause injury!

The best toys for aggressive chewers are toys that your pup will love and play with for hours on end.  Report back and let me know your experience with our recommended chew toys.
