If you’re like me, you always have a jar of peanut butter in your pantry.  And if you’re also like me, you have a gluten-free family member and a dog who loves treats. So why not kill two birds with one stone by making home made gluten-free treats for your dog with your leftover peanut butter? These easy-to-make treats are sure to please even the most finicky of canines and your gluten-free family member won’t have to worry when giving Fido a treat.

My dogs Layla and Eva loved these treats and they were super easy to make as well with ingredients that we had in our pantry.  We also saved a lot of money, as gluten-free treats are expensive to buy either in pet stores or on-line!  Read on for our simple recipie for home made gluten-free treats for your dog.

Gluten-Free Ingredients

1 cup flour – any type gluten-free (we used oat)
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup peanut butter, chunky is best
1 1/4 cups hot water

Instructions

First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Either lightly grease your cookie sheet or use parchment paper to line it.

Combine dry ingredients and knead the dough to thoroughly to combine with the peanut butter and water (a KitchenAid mixer is invaluable for this).  Add a little extra flour if the dough is too sticky.

Once your have a ball of dough, just hand shape little balls of dough and place them onto the cookie sheet.

Bake for 30-40 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Snacks can be stored at room temperature for one week. Or they will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months.  But, if your dog is anything like mine are, they won’t last that long!

Layla and Eva really enjoyed these home-made treats, and it was nice to know that there was no danger of gluten contamination.  Let us know what you think of this recipe for home made gluten free dog treats.  To learn more about Celiac Disease and a gluten-free life, check out https://celiac.org/
